Tropical Depression Nine was upgraded to Tropical Storm Imelda Sunday afternoon. The 2pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center increased winds to 40 mph, making Imelda a weak tropical storm.
Rain chances remain in the forecast for today, but gradually drier air will move in locally. This will be thanks to the front we have been tracking for you over the last couple of days.
We are tracking better rain chances today versus what we’ve had the last couple days thanks to a front moving across our state. This front will bring scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Our main threat will be pockets of heavy rain and winds of 30 mph.
A tropical storm watch has been issued for coastal Brevard and Volusia counties. We now have Tropical Depression 9 moving through the Caribbean and will enter the Bahamas over the next 12 hours.
Potential tropical cyclone 9 will likely become tropical storm Imelda by the end of the weekend and we will see impacts along the Florida coast.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible for central Florida into the first part of the evening.
Hurricane Gabrielle is beginning to move eastward as it passes by Bermuda. Winds peaked at 140 mph on Monday. It will likely hold that strength through tomorrow morning. It will continue to move towards Europe and lose strength as it enters cooler water.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle is moving into more favorable conditions for development. It has the potential to strengthen into a category 1 hurricane by the end of the day.
The high pressure to our west will persist for the next few days, continuing to influence our weather pattern. This will result in above-average temperatures, even though tomorrow marks the first day of fall.
