SANFORD, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol says a two-vehicle wreck in Sanford turned deadly Monday morning.
Troopers say the preliminary evidence indicates that shortly after 10 a.m., a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Interstate 4, approaching the overpass of State Road 46. Meanwhile, a Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class was stopped in the eastbound left turn lane on State Road 46.
Troopers say the Honda’s driver ran off the roadway and struck the median guardrail. This impact caused it to overturn onto State Road 46 and collide with the Mercedes-Benz.
The Honda’s driver died at the scene. He has not yet been identified.
The Mercedes-Benz’s driver was not hurt and remained at the scene.
State Road 46 is currently closed in all directions from Towne Center Boulevard to Wayside Drive due to the crash. Motorists traveling westbound on State Road 46 from Towne Center Boulevard can only access the eastbound on-ramp to I-4.
Police expect traffic congestion for several more hours.
Florida Highway Patrol is handling the crash, with Sanford police assisting.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
