I-95 fatal crash closes interstate in Brevard County

UPDATE:

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash on Interstate 95 in Mims, that shutdown all the northbound lanes.

According to officials, the crash occurred in the northbound lanes near mile marker 232 around 2:25 p.m.

The crash involved a semi-truck and a Volvo truck.

Both vehicles were traveling northbound in the center lane, with the Volvo truck ahead of the semi.

The driver of the semi failed to slow down and attempted to avoid the Volvo and struck the truck’s rear.

The impact caused the truck to run off the roadway and collide with the inside shoulder guardrail, overturn, and become engulfed in flames. The driver of the semi was pronounced dead on the scene. The truck driver and passenger were not injured and remained on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
