VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 5-month-old boy was fatally injured by a dog in a home overnight near Ormond Beach.
Deputies said the incident happened around 9:49 p.m. Wednesday inside a home on Carolina Avenue.
Deputies responded to a 911 call after family members found the infant injured in a bedroom with the dog next to him.
The infant was in the care of a family member while his parents were out of the home.
The boy was rushed to a hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Volusia County Animal Services took possession of the dog, which was described as a 130-pound Great Dane and Husky mix.
County officials confirmed the dog was later euthanized.
