Leesburg Police hunt two persons of interest in deadly Berry Park shooting

LEESBURG SHOOTING SUSPECTS

LEESBURG, Fla. — Leesburg Police are urgently requesting information about two individuals of interest related to a shooting that occurred over the weekend at Berry Park.

Police are searching for James Fenderson IV and D’Yuntre Wright in connection with a deadly shooting that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Juan Gomez Jr.

Gomez was discovered unresponsive inside a vehicle on Sunday, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, and was declared dead at the scene.

Court records show Fenderson was released from jail nine days before the shooting death of Gomez.

An arrest affidavit from November states that a group of teenagers was at a house when someone was accidentally shot. Fenderson was questioned about that shooting.

Detectives said they were already monitoring his social media and found a video of him holding a semiautomatic handgun and an AR-15–style rifle. As a result, Fenderson was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a minor.

The report states that during the November incident, Fenderson already had an ankle monitor on after being released from jail on June 30.

The report says he’s previously been charged for battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and riot.

Law enforcement has not disclosed any details or motives behind the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Leesburg Police Department or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
